First, it speeds up the game; you don't spend hours reloading and replaying every fight to get through in perfect shape. Second, it creates consequences that have to be dealt with instead of sidestepped, broadening the gameplay. Death is an added challenge instead of a time-consumer. I don't think I'll ever play it on normal, because the temptation to reload and replay would be too strong, and then you get stuck playing in this narrow valley of perfect outcomes. Rather than having to repeat something dull it meant that I had to rethink my tactics, talk about the situation with my alliance mates and try to find a good solution to a player threat. We couldn't find a solution so I've ended up having to log off.

But the real currency in any game is player interest. The game became more interesting because it challenged me in this way. Even if balked this time, next time I hope we'll have the planning, the equipment and the ability to turn the tables on the guys who just ganked me.

I think the key is to find a game where death instead of being purely a setback (gahhh, I have to re-do this shitty pug dungeon that I'm sick of), death should be a fluid changing of the play into a different form (I changed from planning to make money to planning to kill some dudes).Stabshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08716211705647213383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-826986957606858027.post-9116306066589306172012-10-17T17:47:52.066-04:002012-10-17T17:47:52.066-04:00I liked this post so much I decided to leave a com...I liked this post so much I decided to leave a comment, however, you've said it all already; so, yay!
